Fab Prefab & Cargotecture

It's not at all about living in a box.

Home is what you make it as they say.  and supporting this, published and edited by Michael Sylvester (California, USA), www.fabprefab.com is an online information resource dedicated to investigating the market for affordable modernist factory-built residential architecture.

Though still limited in appeal with few designs actually coming to the market i.e. most are “in development”, this site brings you the latest news and designs from around the world in modernist custom pre-fab housing design. With what seems like constant growth in house prices, for the first time buyer or those with a limited budget pre-fab design can offer a real alternative to those seeking to invest in their own home.

Of special interest to the Co-Buyers team is the use of old shipping containers, also known as cargotecture to create often striking and high quality housing solutions. Again not for everyone, but as a co-investment or a shared ownership solution it is perhaps worth consideration. Check out the "Container Bay" section for more ideas on this great resource for an often overlooked and undervalued low cost housing solution.

Another great site that demonstrates some examples of real life cargotecture is Hybrid Seattle which can be found here
